Rapid Rest and Repair Technique

Wow, I was tired today! Being around kids can be wonderful, but it can also be exhausting!

Just when I thought I didn’t have any more energy to give, I had to take part in some exercise with the kids again, so what to do?

The Rapid Rest and Repair Technique is something I have developed from my years and years of Reiki Practice.

It takes just 2-3 minutes, and if done without distraction or interruption, can be intensely healing and rejuvenating.

Seeing as a couple of friends of mine also told me they were exhausted today, I thought I would share, in case it was of benefit to others too.

Rapid Rest and Repair Technique

  • Sit comfortably on a chair (sitting is best, lying would encourage you to fall asleep)
  • Close your eyes and take your attention inwards to the inside of you and your body
  • Instead of trying to fight being tired, let all your awareness and energy flow to where it is are needed most – this might be shoulders, back, legs muscles, gut – wherever your body feels is the best for the energy and awareness to go
  • Really feel and listen with your body to what your body is saying and sharing with you
  • You may wish to focus on one area, or a few areas of need one after the other
  • If the mind wanders, bring it back to being aware of the whole of you and where your attention and energy are needed the most.*
  • After a short while, you will be aware that your energy levels have risen back up and/or this technique is no longer needed and you can carry on with your day.

* Disengaging the story and mind chatter around why you are tired and how you feel about being tired is critical to moving into a new energised state.

Short term solution

This technique is a short term solution to get you through your day and not a replacement for scheduling sufficient down time and proper rest. It is useful when you actively want to take part in something but feel like you haven’t the energy for it. In the exercise the body redistributes the energy it has to take part in the activities you want to do (great for when you have kids and you can’t stop). However, this redistribution must be rebalanced at a later date – preferably that day, as a energy reserve that is drawn on more than it is filled will soon become empty (take it from me, I had ME for 10+) years.

By listening to yourself fully and completely, your body will thank you for it and will be very clear at the end of the exercise whether you absolutely need to stop now and rest properly, or where you were perhaps letting your mind chatter get the better of you and you had more energy than you realised.

A great day of teaching

Today I had a wonderful day teaching. The conversation was so rich and diverse, steeped in curiosity and exploration. Reiki isn’t just about a series of hand positions, it’s an exploration into what it is like to be human. It’s a discussion on how the body speaks the mind, an exploration into how we may have become disconnected from source (without realising it) and what it means to be aligned with who you are – the hand positions are just a means to get there.

I’ve lost count of how many different people I have worked with, each with their own journey and story. Some stay with me for a while, others it’s a fleeting experience. What I trust is that they are all with me for as long as they need, with some returning years later when they are ready again.

That’s what I love about Reiki, it works so much with intuition, helping you trust and develop your own. My own personal experience has been a huge wake up call to how much we are divinely guided if we only open ourselves up to it.

Tomorrow we’ll look at the 5 Reiki Precepts, the behavioural cornerstones that Usui put together to help people create a behavioural moral compass so that all the good healing work doesn’t come undone. These precepts include ‘be kind to all living things’ and ‘do not worry’ – two great pieces of advice for anyone.

When we are finished my Level 1 students are able to treat themselves, friends and family. I send them off with a 21 day healing journey, a nod to Usui’s time on Mount Kurama. In that period they will get to learn about the various facets of Reiki and how it can be soothing when you are low and calming when you are anxious and your energy is high. They will learn about themselves and become more aware of their own body and emotions; a great foundation for when they work with others.

In short it is a full mind, body and soul learning. I like to bring in my experience from my other therapies as much as possible as I encourage my students to bring all their life and learning experiences too. Together we explore the subject and have a wonderful time.

The mind (ego) constantly looks for evidence to support your (mind made) beliefs.

Instead connect back to your body; all of it. Here you can live in truth.

Your amazing body is a giant sensory feedback organism that tells you about its environment and what it needs in order to be well.

So many that suffer have disconnected from their amazing bodies and live their existence from their tiny and life limiting mind. This results in dis-ease.

By reconnecting to our bodies we start to heal the rift between heart and mind and put ourselves back into balance.

The greatest feeling in the world is the heart and mind working as it was designed to, in perfect balance. It literally transcends us to a place of bliss.

This is not fantasy but a real and achievable reality.

It all starts with you.

Make a choice.

Drop your beliefs. Let go of your thinking. Be innocent. Open yourself up to what is possible.

Mind Body Spirit – what does it mean to you?

I meet many many clients that have only ever pursued a body approach to their health conditions only to find the issue is in their mind or they are not honouring their spiritual truth.

Thankfully modern healthcare is waking up to the mind body connection, but still it forms a very minor part of the services they offer.

On the spiritual front, modern healthcare offers very little support at all – a legacy of pre-Victorian times when the body became the domain of the physicians and spirit the domain of the church.

Now very few people attend church or are regularly reminded to look after their spiritual health, so it is unsurprising there is so much demand for #Reiki – an accessible return to health through studying the nature of our spirit and learning to sense and work with it instead of override it.

To me, each of the three aspects of our being – the mind, body and soul are equally as important. For my body I eat good food, drink mineral rich water, exercise and spend time outdoors, see a chiropractor, have acupuncture, go to the spa and get plenty of rest and sleep. For my mind I meditate (to rest it and practice switching it off), talk with others about what is bothering me, Mind Detox myself on any problems and write lists of tasks. For my soul I spend time with horses, exchange Reiki treatments, spend quiet time in nature and love as much as I possibly can. I spend and equal amount of time on each three too, making some major life adjustments to honour that.

So next time your life isn’t quite going to plan as much as you would like, ask yourself is this a Mind Body or Soul issue? You may find you will solve it much quicker that way.
